Gmail Tricks
Gmail has been adding a lot of new features lately. Some of them has been there for a long time. Gmail team is trying to make the system little bit customisable so people can have their own gmail interface. You can see what you can do with your gmail account by clicking on “Settings” on top left side of your screen. There are bunch of stuff you can do. In this article, I’ll talk about three features that I recently discovered. I know maybe those features have been there for over a year.
Turning Off/On Google Chat
I own more than ten gmail accounts and only one of them is for personal use, rest of the accounts are being used for sites, forums and blogs. I don’t use this feature of Gmail on these non-personal accounts. The problem was the loading part of this application. It would take couple of seconds for it to load and if you have more people in your chat, it would take more than that. So i needed to disable this feature. You can just go to bottom of your screen and click on “turn chat off/on”.
Basic HTML Format
I was introduced to this feature when I used to have a really bad wireless connection. Most of the times, it wouln’t let me log in, it would just time out so Gmail offers you to try to view in Basic HTML format when this happens. So to enable this, you can click on “Basic HTML” that’s next to “turn on/off”.
Use Mobile Version of Gmail
I just discovered this. I can see this becoming handy when you are checking your emails on a public computer that has crappy connection or just a slow system. Simply go to “m.gmail.com” and log in. It will just list all of your emails, that’s it and nothing else. You can still do a lot of things on it such as archiving a mail, adding stars and etc.
